
Background Leadership Brenda Motheral, BPharm, MBA, PhD, author of 2008: A Tipping Point for Disease Management, recently co-founded CareScientific. Previously, Dr. Motheral served as Senior Vice President of Research and Product Management for Express Scripts, having responsibility for development and management of all PBM product offerings, and more recently, as Executive Director of The Center for Health Research at Healthways. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Motheral was a faculty member at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and also served as the Director of the University’s Center for Pharmacy Policy. Dr. Motheral’s research program was awarded grants from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and The Merck Foundation. Over the last decade, Dr. Motheral has published more than 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the areas of cost-effectiveness, pharmaceutical cost management, and disease management and has received national research awards from both scientific and professional organizations. Dr. Motheral holds a PhD focused in Health Economics, a Masters of Business Administration, and a B.S. in Pharmacy. Steve Melnick, MBA, spent more than 15 years developing products, process and strategy for leading healthcare companies. Prior to co-founding CareScientific, Steve held various leadership roles at Express Scripts, most recently leading the Consumer Insights team that brought theories from consumer behavior, behavioral economics and choice framing into practice. Previously, Steve led the Innovation group, which initiated and developed new growth platforms, and was integral in Corporate and Supply Chain Strategic Planning during his more than eight years at Express Scripts. While a consultant at Ernst & Young, Steve worked with several managed care and hospital organizations, focusing on online strategies and process redesign. Steve holds a BSBA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. |
